Learning to measure sea turtles

Last 29 of October, we learnt two ways to measure sea turtles: the straight-line and over the curve measurements. The carapaces of sea turtles have a notch at the front, and another notch at the end of the carapace, between the last two marginal scutes. We learnt how to measure the minimum carapace length, the one that goes from notch to notch, and also the length from the notch at the front of the carapace to the tip at the end.
We also learnt to measure the carapace width and the head width. Measuring turtles is important because we can find out how long it takes for them to grow, or compare the size of the turtles from different places in the world.

This is great you guys! Measuring is so important for understanding more about turtle ecology, so I’m glad you’re getting some good experience with this. Hopefully you’ll get to practice on some live turtles soon! But I like your pseudo turtle!!
